CLAAS Hosts Nebraska Governor’s Trade Delegation to Germany

CLAAS welcomed Nebraska governor Pete Ricketts along with a delegation of farmers, entrepreneurs, politicians and scientists to its headquarters in Harsewinkel, Germany, during National Apprenticeship Week. The delegation was there to solidify relations with various German manufacturers and highlight the new three-year ICATT Apprenticeship program, currently being implemented by CLAAS Omaha Inc in the combine assembly plant. The group also visited Agritechnica, a leading exhibition for agricultural equipment in Hanover, Germany as part of their trade mission.

The CLAAS shareholders and executive committee hosted the group, who enjoyed a guided tour of CLAAS, participated in a roundtable discussion and talked about Nebraska’s German-style apprenticeship program.

The ICATT Apprenticeship is a three-year dual-study program promoted through the German American Chamber of Commerce. It helps manufacturers create a pipeline of skilled talent and train the workforce they need to grow, while workers develop skills so they can expand career opportunities.

CLAAS is one of two high-tech German companies with North American operations based in Omaha to commit funds for the ICATT Apprenticeship.

“A skilled workforce is essential for CLAAS to build the high-efficiency machines that the markets are demanding,” says Leif Magnusson, president of CLAAS Global Sales - Americas. “We were thrilled to host Governor Ricketts and the Nebraska delegation at CLAAS and Agritechnica to further strengthen the state’s relations with Germany and address key workforce opportunities such as the ICATT Apprenticeship program.”

Ricketts said he hoped the trip, including his visit to CLAAS headquarters, will help deepen Nebraska’s relations with Germany and open new partnerships, including in the agricultural industry sector. That’s especially important as agriculture accounts for 20% of Nebraska’s economic output and provides 25% of the state’s jobs.

According to Ricketts, “The German Dual Study Apprenticeship Program is an innovative way to address the skilled workforce shortage by helping both people who are looking for great jobs, and employers working to recruit and develop talent.”
